The Holly Ridge Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, established in 1959, has consistently offered fire and emergency services to the residents and visitors of the Town of Holly Ridge and South Onslow County. Over time, the department has responded to increasing service demands by implementing paid staffing programs and acquiring specialized equipment.

On April 23, 2025, the department achieved a significant milestone through its commitment to community service. With financial backing from the Town of Holly Ridge and collaboration with Onslow County EMS, the Holly Ridge Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department elevated its EMS provider designation to Paramedic Non-Transport. This increase allows Holly Ridge to offer higher-level pre hospital medical care. The department will be onboarding additional Firefighter Paramedics to ensure the availability of this service around the clock. “We are honored to contribute to our expanding community and fortunate to have committed volunteers and staff whose efforts are commendable," Chief Brandon Longo.
