When Coastal Pender Rotary Club member, Kim Keenan, identified a community need for sandwiches to serve homeless individuals she immediately responded to address this shortfall. She brought together community volunteers and financial resources that now make over 600 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches each month. Every 2nd Sunday of each month volunteers gather at All Saints Catholic Church to create and wrap these sandwiches. The sandwiches are delivered to Good Shepherd Center in Wilmington.
This is a true Community service project that combines resources and the efforts of All Saints Catholic Church parishioners and kitchen facility, Coastal Pender Rotary Club members, food donations from the local Publix and Walmart markets and the Share the Table food bank and especially the support from the dedicated “Community” volunteers.
Megan Hutchings the Senior Director of Development at Good Shepherd Center gratefully acknowledges, “At Good Shepherd, we depend on meaningful partnerships like the one between All Saints Catholic Church and Coastal Pender Rotary to meet the daily needs of your guests. Their generous effort to provide peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is not just appreciated – it’s essential……we are deeply grateful for their support – and we invite others to join us in creating a stronger, more hopeful future for all.”
If you would like to join in making a difference, and a sandwich, email Kim Keenan, JourneyHomeNC@gmail.com, to be included in this worthwhile project OR just join us at All Saints Catholic Church, 18737 US Hwy17, Hampstead, on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 12 noon for a rewarding hour.
