Candidate Questionnaire: Joseph Correia for Holly Ridge Council

1) What 3 changes, if any, would you like to see in the community you will be representing over the next four years?

A. Increase citizen participation in committees and workshops.

B. Increased emphasis on improving underdeveloped land/buildings within the current town limits.

C. Develop a concept/plan to make Holly Ridge a tourist destination where all age groups want to come to play, eat and relax.

2) What strategy will you implement to respond to public concerns and criticisms?

Implement an online form where citizens can easily fill out and submit through the town’s webpage. Receive confirmation that their form has been received and an expected action date. This system will provide question/recommendation/complaint tracking.

3) How do you plan to measure and evaluate your success in office?

Smart growth and responsible fiscal care resulting in no tax increases.

4) Can you give an example of how you have supported a community project in the past?

In my neighborhood I was a member of our HOA Amenities Committee. I was the project lead for improvement to the sports courts. I developed a plan to define the need to add pickleball courts while maintaining the integrity of the existing tennis courts. I researched and interviewed suitable contractors and produced a recommendation to the HOA covering costs and available warranties. Additionally, although not a project per say, I am an active member with Share the Table Foodbank helping in the distribution of food to our neighbors and assisting in the foodbank’s functions. Finally, I am a delivery driver for our local Meals on Wheels program.

5) What personal or professional experience do you have that makes you qualified to serve your community?

As a 20 year retired Naval Flight Officer I learned and developed a leadership style where I seek out collaboration from junior officers and senior and junior enlisted personnel. I will do the same as your council member. I will seek out opinions/recommendations from fellow council members, town staff and citizens. With your voice we will make a better future for Holly Ridge.
