The Moores Creek Battleground Association, in collaboration with regional partners and Moores Creek National Battlefield, is calling on volunteers to help launch a once-in-a-generation celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Volunteers have a rare opportunity to be part of history during the three-day First in Freedom Festival, February 26–28, at Moores Creek National Battlefield. Assignments include logistics support, book signings, visitor guides, and more—each playing a vital role in commemorating this milestone moment in our nation’s story.

“This is going to be historic—and a fun, meaningful way to create lifelong memories while celebrating America’s 250th anniversary,” said Jason Collins, Chief of Interpretation, Education and Volunteer at Moores Creek National Battlefield.

The First in Freedom Festival serves as the national kickoff of America’s 250th anniversary. Events will feature guided tours, living history demonstrations, special guest appearances—including Outlander author Diana Gabaldon—and additional experiences that bring the Revolutionary era to life.

Moores Creek National Battlefield, Southeast North Carolina’s only national park, marks the site of the first Patriot victory of the Revolutionary War. The Battle of Moores Creek Bridge took place on February 27, 1776—exactly 250 years to the day of this historic commemoration.

“Volunteers can choose the dates they’re available and the hours they wish to serve,” Collins added.
